Commercial Solar Calculator for Irish Businesses

Most businesses overpay for energy because they’re unsure about their power needs. Our free commercial solar calculator gives you a quick estimate of panel area, energy output, and SEAI grant eligibility for your building. Get your estimate in minutes and start cutting your electricity costs.

The below are standard panel values, but feel free to play around if you are looking for something specific.

Panel width (mm)
Panel height (mm)
Panel spacing (mm)
Roof slope (degrees) For flat roof / ground mount, ~30° is standard in Ireland

If you are going for ground mounting / flat roof mounting, then the mounting equipment normally angles the panels towards the sun. About 37° gets the most annual generation here in Ireland.

Why Use a Commercial Solar Calculator Before You Invest

Every commercial property is different. Roof size, orientation, location, and energy usage all shape whether solar is a strong investment or a marginal one. Our calculator lets you test the numbers before you speak to anyone, so you walk into the conversation with a clear picture of what your building could produce and what grant support you qualify for.

It also helps you compare system sizes. A 20 kWp array performs very differently from a 50 kWp or 100 kWp system, and the NDMG grant rate changes at each tier. Running a few scenarios takes minutes and shows you where the sweet spot sits for your budget and energy consumption.

Most importantly, it removes guesswork. Instead of wondering whether solar makes financial sense for your business, you get an immediate estimate of annual generation, grant value, and roof area. That clarity makes every conversation with an installer more productive.

How to Use This Commercial Solar Calculator

Start with the number of panels and their wattage. The calculator is prefilled with a 50-panel system at 465 Wp each, giving you a 23.25 kWp array. Adjust the panel count to match your needs and the results panel updates your total kWp, annual generation, NDMG grant value, and CO2 savings automatically.

Next, review the roof and ground area inputs. The default panel dimensions and spacing reflect standard commercial installations in Ireland. Select your roof slope, direction, and county, because all three directly affect your output. The calculator uses county-level irradiance data to reflect real Irish conditions.

Once set, hit the calculate button. The Annual Units Generated figure shows your estimated yearly output in kWh. The NDMG Scheme Grant Value shows how much the SEAI would contribute towards your solar installation. These are ballpark figures to help you decide whether a detailed site survey is the right next step.

How Does It Work?

1

Data Collection

The first step in the process. We gather as much information as possible to make an informed assessment. We will request your annual electricity consumption data and evaluate your available roof or ground space to determine what is achievable in terms of panel area and system size.

1

2

Initial Proposal

Once we have analysed your data and determined the ideal system size, we present you with an initial proposal. This gives both sides a clear picture of whether solar is the right fit for your business before committing significant time or resources.

2

3

Full Technical Site Survey

If the initial proposal looks good, our team will visit your site to carry out a full technical survey. We measure and assess the roof structure, electrical infrastructure, potential shading, and any other site-specific variables that could affect the installation.

3

4

Official Proposal and Project Agreement

Following the site survey, we prepare a detailed formal proposal. This includes the final system design, projected generation figures, return on investment calculations, and a clear indication of what the installation will involve. Only after you approve this proposal are you committed to anything.

4

5

Grant and Grid Applications

We guide you through the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG) application process and handle the ESB Networks connection paperwork on your behalf. The SEAI typically responds within the same day with your grant approval. The NDMG provides up to €162,600 for commercial solar installations depending on system size. For most commercial buildings, no planning permission is required.

5

6

Installation and Handover

Once all approvals are in place, our SEAI-certified crew manages every aspect of the installation. We work closely with your team to minimise disruption to daily operations. After the build, we arrange a full handover, walk you through all operating procedures, and set up your online monitoring portal so you can track performance from day one.
