Government Funds for Farms

Farms can fund solar two ways, and you take one or the other.

TAMS III is run by the Department of Agriculture and covers 60% of your eligible investment, with its own ring-fenced ceiling of €90,000, so up to €54,000 back. Applications open in tranches announced by the Department.

SEAI’s Non-Domestic Microgen Grant currently pays 45% of eligible costs, up to €325,200, on systems to 1,000 kWp. Applications close on 6 July 2027, and SEAI pays after installation.

You cannot claim both on the same installation. TAMS returns more on most farm rooftops. A large installation can be worth more under the SEAI grant, because TAMS stops counting investment above €90,000. We work out which one suits your system and handle the paperwork either way.

FAQ

Need some Info?

Can solar panels run a farm completely?
Rarely on their own. Solar covers the daytime load well, which on most farms is the bulk of it, so milking, grain drying, ventilation and refrigeration are where it pays. Night and winter demand still comes from the grid unless you add storage. We size the system against your own usage pattern rather than your total annual figure.
Do solar panels perform well on cloudy days?

Modern solar panels are built to function well on days with little sunlight.

Does a farm building need planning clearance to install solar panels?

As long as the system meets exemption standards, rooftop installations on agricultural buildings usually don’t require planning clearance.
